BioVaria 2026 once again provides a strong platform in Munich where scientific excellence and entrepreneurship connect with industry and investment in the life-sciences. As patron of this event, the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs is pleased to support this essential forum for translating research into innovation and growth.

Bavaria continues to see biotechnology as a strategic future technology with a dual benefit: driving economic development while delivering tangible value to society through new medicines and therapies. Biotechnology is becoming even more important in the current geopolitical context. Europe must be able to act independently in the development and production of novel drugs, whether in response to a renewed pandemic or in other crisis scenarios. With the Pandemic Alliance Munich (PAM), Bavaria has created a framework that brings together basic research and industry to enable rapid drug development and manufacturing when required.

The Bavarian State Government is therefore continuing its targeted support for life-science entrepreneurs through incubators offering affordable laboratory space, practical advice, and dedicated funding programmes. Bavaria’s strength is also reflected in recent figures: in 2025, 19% of all European biotechnology financing went to German companies, more than 80% of which was secured by Bavarian enterprises. While individual financing rounds of over EUR 300 million send an encouraging signal, they remain the exception across Europe. To address the shortage of growth and scale-up capital, Bayern Kapital launched a new fund at the end of 2025, with a volume of EUR 500 million and investment capacities of up to EUR 50 million per company.

Looking ahead, our aim is to attract more private capital to Germany and Bavaria, while improving access to clinical trials and accelerating their implementation. Platforms such as BioVaria play a crucial role in meeting these challenges by bringing together innovators, investors and partners.
